Abstract

Studies the acknowledgements incorporated in research papers on electronics and related fields appearing during 2008-2012 in IETE Technical Review, and IETE Journal of Research, official publications of The Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE). Results show that nearly 35% articles contains acknowledgements; on average acknowledgement per articles is 2.2; mostly acknowledgements relates to financial support. Only 21% of acknowledgements address to the PIC [Peer Interactive Communication], and two persons are acknowledged two times. The number of articles with acknowledgements is higher in IETE Technical Review compared to IETE Journal of Research. The number of PIC acknowledgements in electronics research is very low compared to other journals. Forty-two percent articles acknowledge one addressee and 1% articles acknowledges up to ten addressees at a time.

Abstract

Rabindranath Tagore has composed more than two thousand songs. His songs known as Rabindra Sangit have become a symbol of cultural ethos of both India and Bangladesh. The present paper is an attempt to study the growth of Rabindra Sangit, Tagore’s writings on songs as well as its publication trends with the help of bibliometric technique. It is observed from the study that songs and writings on songs in different literary forms constitute a substantial part of Tagoreana (all the intellectual output of Rabindranath). Tagore composed songs throughout the different phases of his literary career.

Abstract

Ever since Rabindranath Tagore conceived the idea of Visva-Bharati, development of library for collection, preservation and dissemination of knowledge were an integral part of his institution. His concern in this regard is amply reflected in many of his speeches and writings wherein his concern for both philosophical as well as functional aspects of library service finds a poignant place. As a man of action, Rabindranath tried to give his vision of library a concrete shape along with the establishment of his experimental school at Santiniketan and institute of rural development at Sriniketan. The present paper aims to recapture the vision of one of the most sensitive minds in the field of library service by applying principles of literature search and bibliometrics. It is observed from the study that all aspects of library science have been reflected in his writings in all kinds of literary forms.

Abstract

Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) received Nobel Prize for Gitanjali (Songs Offerings) in 1913 which is a collection of poems from different kavyagrantha (book of poems). The present paper is an attempt to study the growth of poems of Gitanjali, their lengths, places and dates of writings, use of words, rank frequency of different words and to find out whether Gitanjali follows any bibliometric law. The study also tries to find justification of the title Gitanjali with the help of bibliometric techniques. It is observed from the study that many poems of Gitanjali are songs, written long before the publication and submission of Gitanjali for Nobel Prize .The rank-frequency distribution of words in Gitanjali do not follow Zipf‟s law but justiies the title of the kavyagrantha.

Abstract

Rabindranath Tagore by virtue of his versatile genius stepped into almost all fields of human experience. He is primarily known to the world as a great poet but his contribution as an educator and humanist is also very significant. As an educator he took into account all types of men and their aspirations, endeavours and achievements. Tagore's educational philosophy is based on fullness and conversion of individual fullness to social fullness. He wanted to create cultured knowledge environment and also to communicate necessary knowledge and skill for rendering service to the villages. The present paper is an attempt to understand Tagore's concept of knowledge and methods he adopted to communicate it for social benefit.

Abstract

Various methods of content analysis are described here with special emphasis on keyword analysis. This study is based on an analytical study of 97 keywords extracted from titles and abstracts of 70 research articles, taking ten from each year starting from 2000 to 2006, in decreasing order of relevance, on the subject Fermi Liquid, which is a specific subject under the broad area of Condensed Matter Physics. The keywords beginning with the letters 'A' to 'F' only are considered for this study. The research articles have been collected from the bibliographic database of INSPEC. The keywords are indexed to critically examine its physical structure that is composed of three fundamental kernels, viz. keyphrase, modulator and qualifier. The keyphrase reflects the central concept, which is usually post-coordinated by the modulator to amend the central concept in accordance with the relevant context. The qualifier comes after the modulator to describe the particular state of the central concept and/or amended concept. The keywords are further classified in 36 classes on the basis of the 10 parameters, of which 4 parameters are intrinsic, i.e. Associativeness, chronological appearance, frequency of occurrence and category; and remaining 6 parameters are extrinsic, i.e. Clarity of meaning, type of meaning, scope of meaning, level of perception, mode of creation and area of occurrence. The number of classes under 4 intrinsic parameters is 16, while the same under 6 extrinsic parameters are 20. A new taxonomy of keywords has been proposed here that will enable to analyze research-trend of a subject and to identify potential research-areas under the scope of the same.

Abstract

The postings in library's Facebook page were gleaned and analysed. Data of important metrics of Facebook post usage was taken from 'Facebook Insight' metrics of Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women Library's Facebook page. Alongside, library usage data was used to understand the change in behaviour of library usage. The findings provide further support to the view that social network sites (i.e., Facebook) have the potential to be a cost-effective means of engaging users effectively irrespective of the size of the academic library. It is also found that collaboration and communication through Facebook were far more effective than traditional approaches. Since only the experience of a single institution is considered, it cannot be generalized that Facebook will be effective in every institutional context. However, the result provides a basis for academic libraries to consider experimenting with Facebook and its page to understand its effectiveness. This paper provides evidence that such initiatives can provide a measurable impact of Facebook as an outreach tool with minimal efforts.
